Safari

We went on a water safari yesterday on the Shire River in Malawi. It was a pontoon boat with 12 seats and we journeyed more than two hours up river. From the river we saw hippos, elephants, crocodiles, African eagles, buzzards and other birds. At several points we saw elephants fighting and it was like a scene out of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom (if you can remember that). We stopped at a the lodge at the Malawi National Park which reminded me of being at Disney's Jungle Cruise but it was real! We took a short five minute nature walk to see what was in the area. I hate nature walks because all you usually see are a couple of bugs and maybe a squirrel. As soon as we got out of the gate we saw a wart hog (Pumba), three baboons and three foot long lizard. As we continued we saw more baboons, an impala (not the car) and some tree monkeys. It was a pretty cool day. We went back to the lodge for a refreshing Fanta before departing back to the hotel. I will post some pictures later.
