I'm at the airport in Johannesburg waiting for my 11:30PM flight to Amsterdam that will take nine hours. I just took a two hour flight from Capetown. From Amsterdam I take a nine hour flight to Minneapolis. Then its a three hour flight to Sacramento. I get home at 11:00PM on Sunday night. Just a note to let you know that the last four pictures and posts where taken and uploaded on my Blackberry Curve on location - pretty cool huh?

African Penguin

I saw this really cool penguin and I named her Nancy. I think its a she? Reminds me to root for my favorite hockey team - go Penguins!

On the left is the Indian Ocean and on the right is the Atlantic straight ahead is the South Pole. This is the furtherest south you can go in Africa.

It is an amazingly beautiful day here in Capetown. I hired a taxi for 8 hours and I'm getting an really cool tour.

Myanmar Response

Yesterday we did a live nationwide phone call with myself, Rich Stearns (World Vision US President) and Tim Costello (World Vision, Australia who is on the ground in Myanmar). Pastors and church leaders around the U.S. called in to get an update of what is happening in Myanmar. Here is an audio copy of the phone call.

My Meal

Dinner
For starters I had grilled abalone and salmon served over spinach and topped with squid, black mussels and sautéed onion and tomato. It was delicious. For dinner I had their shellfish and line fish platter. It came with prawns, langastinos (like prawn sized lobsters - we used to get these when I was a kid), calamari, dorado (a white flaky fish that reminded me of sea bass) and a rock lobster. It was served with a garlic sauce and a creamy lemon butter sauce that was just perfect for the shellfish. For dessert it was a special chocolate lava cake infused with butterscotch and served with a scoop of homemade ice cream.

Dinner at Baia

I went to dinner at a really nice seafood restaurant tonight. It was recommended by several people I talked with and was right on the bay. They sat me next to two business ladies from California and we enjoyed some good conversation. They were very interesting and working in the diamond business. I now have a friend in the diamond business . I sat in a corner table with floor to ceiling glass window looking over the water.

Dealership Next Door to My Hotel

One of the most difficult things about being in Africa is to the see the start contrast between the rich and the poor. You can drive a few miles from this dealership where they sell cars for hundreds of thousands of dollars to a shanty town where people live on less than $50 a month.

Boat Ride

Part of our tour was taking a boat ride on the bay. This boat is powered by a steam engine that had one time powered a boat on the mighty Mississippi River
